The theme for February’s edition of on:africa is film.
Who makes the films, and who are the characters? Who decides what stories get told and how to tell them? Where do they show and how are they received? How do they shape what we know?
Film festivals and emerging directors, rising industries and wannabe stars, household legends, books converted to films, export-import, production and distribution, open-air theaters, traveling screens, multiplex, mobile phones and everything else in between. A film often tells more than one story. But either way, Africa’s got film like film’s got Africa.
